Was there not a corresponding change to the rear lid to accommodate the wiper? Nothing is mentioned in the parts manual, but that is not unusual. Should be able to figure out first use with some September - November 1965 inside lid photos.

Yes, for '66 production tooling was modified to include the mounting boss in the lid for LHD cars. Someone will know better than me if it was ONLY on LHD cars.

The following year they added a boss for RHD, so '68-'73 lids have them on each side.

There are numbers for RHD in the parts manuals in the 1968 MY -- should have dates by tomorrow.

No dates for LHD -- should be easy to determine with member input. Very few cars have rear lids replaced.

Apart from a hole to allow the motor drive for the wiper arm to stick out? --- nothing . . . at least on this '70

The center support has a hole that would accept one end of the wiper motor bracket; the other side clamps onto the lid's inner frame --- scuffs 're still there

Last pic shows the hole-cum-bush that would accept the the wiper motor's output shaft

Yes, the hole for the wiper shaft should be the change, because it wasn't there until it was needed. If the time of the change can be approximated, it is easy to research from there, just like the fixed rear window Targa, 5 gauge 912 etc. Of course, if there is a dealer document with the chassis number and/or date -- that is even better. Because it is a body part change, it should be mores closely related to the chassis number, rather than build date.

When the center bar was removed in November 1967, the resulting lid had two mounting holes so RHD cars could have one that parked on the other side.

Not surprisingly, the dates in the parts manual for RHD rear wipers correspond to the removal the center rear lid bar in November 1967. I am uncertain if any RHD cars prior to this had the LHD wiper fitted, but there was no reason they could not have -- except they wouldn't have been very effective.

The alu lid that I sourced for my car had no provision for a wiper output when found --- the lid had to be drilled, first, + the bush inserted

Two bushes here? . . .
