    Cleaning S Calipers

Hi folks, I have S calipers in my august 70 built 911T, that was delivered with koni ‘adjustable’ struts and S Calipers. The Calipers are marked by an ‘X’ in a circle, and they also have a very small ‘69’ stamped in a very small box....presumably a manufacture year.

Question relates to cleaning the calipers... I am having some parts vapour blasted and wondered if it is advisable to do the same With the calipers? will the vapour blasting process remove the annodised coating, or is this cleaning process recommended? I should point out that I have scrubbed these thing with kerosene and a rag at they are ok, but still far from perfect.

Any advice here is greatly appreciated..

Vapor blasting will remove the anodisation.

When I restored my '73 hot rod almost 15 years ago, I bead blasted my S calipers and re-coated them with high temp clear before reassembly. They still look and function well.

On my current '70 project, I sent them to Eric Shea at PMB for a correct re-anodization.

Hi, from 72 they are not anodised, the process is different. If you wanted to restore yours it’s not hard to strip them and have them polished before anodising. If you do make sure they mask the knock back pins which are in the calipers as they are steel.

I used a buffing/polishing wheel (no compund) and they turned out ok, not concourse but will still be very nice looking after a trackday.

There is a spa in Utah that your calipers can visit, and come back feeling completely refreshed.
