FS: 1977 Porsche 911S Targa - in Colorado

    EDIT - SOLD

    For Sale: 1977 Porsche 911S Targa $32,500

This is a really nice Targa. A lot of money and effort has gone into making it a good looking and great working Porsche.

It starts up super quick and easy, due to a good working fuel injection system, and a complete rebuild of the 2.7L engine with important upgrades at Stuttgart West. Carrera pressure fed chain tensioners, new studs, SSI exhaust, pistons & cylinders, exhaust valves for the cylinder head rebuilds and much more (have paperwork from rebuild). At the same time, the transmission was gone through with new synchros, etc. $20,000 was spent on the engine and transmission rebuilds. When the engine and transmission were installed, it got a new clutch as well. It makes great power for a 2.7 and the transmission shifts beautifully.

The tires are brand new Toyo high performance all-seasons with less than 100 miles on them. The brakes and suspension feel really good. There is a very slight shimmy from the steering wheel on sharp bumps occasionally, so tie rod ends or ball joints might need replacement sometime in the near future.

The car has been painted red in the recent past, and it presents very well. There are some defects in the paint job, but most people would not notice. I tried to photograph them and could not get them to show up, other than a few rock chips, which I did detail. The red always gets waves and thumbs-up from onlookers – it suits the car very well. It is a color change from original, but all the jams and undersides were painted thoroughly, so it is very difficult to know it was a change. Absolutely no evidence of rust or damage, ever.

The interior was redone to a high standard. The door panels, front and rear seats, carpet, rear parcel shelf were all done in the same gorgeous leather – I believe it's Terracotta, and compliments the red paint very well. The dash board does have a few cracks, the glove box door is warped, and the passenger window is scratched but those are minor items, relatively speaking. The highly regarded and sought-fter Recaro Sport seats are very comfortable and hold you in place well during spirited driving. Some of the targa seals have been replaced, and all the door and window seals are still soft, though Targas are not the best weatherproof vehicles even with new seals! It has a recent Blaupunkt head unit and Blaupunkt speakers as well – it sounds very nice for a minimal 4 speaker system.

For a car with this level of investment done, compared to most in this price range that are simply worn and used with more miles (this has 105k), this is a very strong value, in my opinion. The needs it has are very minor compared to the huge pluses in it's favor, and it is the perfect condition to be used and enjoyed, without worrying about putting wear on a perfect car. These are also the lowest priced air-cooled Porsche 911, so bound to go up in value in the future.
