D'eser or BF Torino Sheel 300 or Recaro ST seats - SEAT EXPERT HELP NEEDED PLEASE!!

    Hi All,

Anyone actually tried these out? I'm in Europe so the GTS and N.American options are not working.

They are going into a 2.5 ST. Understand that both the Recaro and Sheel seat were used in period - anyone what to chime in on either ones 'correctness'.

Since the original's are getting so hard to find /super expensive I wanted to go with a 'as correct as possible' recreation option.

D'eser seats seem more artisan but the BF's have Dekra certification? Does it matter? I think the BF's are steel tubular and the D'eser's fibreglass tub...

    Any insights super appreciated!!

    Cheers,

    Ali

I would ALWAYS recommend originals to you. you have a high-quality car that you can convert into a ST, why do you want to save on a component that makes up a large part of the interior? It is not expedient to assume that any replicas look or act exactly like originals. You are certainly not screwing any extensions from the turbo to your ST, but it should be as the ST was just then. why deviate from this project in the interior? plastic fenders on your car or instruments from the G-model? no go! just my opinion - maybe others think differently. There are also the original gradations in quality and design, so that there is actually something for every budget. But in one thing I agree with you: it is often not easy to find and without knowledge you can fall for it. are you in europe? me too - unfortunately cannot send you a pm because you have not activated, but you can write to me - I will be happy to help you.

    greetings

Thank you Recarno. Will try and switch on the PM! Agree would like to go original if possible... Problem is timeline of the build and finding an original seat in time at sensible cost!

Had BF Torino "Le Mans" seats for years, and found that they were built okay but noticeably less comfortable than stock (914) seats—pushing my upper back forward. They didn't offer great lateral support either. Was lucky to find a set of used Scheels (thanks Russ!) that are wonderfully comfortable...the only seats I've tried in a 914 that are as comfortable or more comfortable than the stock seats so long as you are reasonably thin. There's plenty of lateral support, and the cloth centers are a boon. No more sweating on black vinyl.

Agree with the comments on old fiberglass, and have long admired Vintage Seats. Probably the way I'd go in a 911 or 912. I would be careful with carbon-fiber seats to learn more about their composition—as you really don't want carbon fiber around your body if it breaks or splinters. There are ways to deal with that, and hopefully that's been accounted for in the offerings on the market.

I had both BFT and Deser, there are good repro/quality for us in Europe.
I would also be very careful with vintage seats using FBG as per their age. I would tend yo agree also on the previous comments about "if you build a ST car then, why do you care about $", but repro seats are still expensive and looks great but cheaper than very nice condition vintage seats.
I do have a swb, and even if I try to be as much as possible period correct, I will not throw ' digits dollars on vintage seats, I'd rather buy high standard repro seats.

It really depends on your objectives, mindset and $.

Please share pics on your build :-)

Just to be clear Vintage Seats is a company. It specializes in pretty accurate redos of the original R, RS, ST, 356 GT etc, I have had an RS version with Eric's sliders that goes from car to car as needed. A great set up that looks original.

Plus one for Vintage Seats- been in my car for quite a while. No complaints, sat in them from Va. to Calif. and back.
