    Fuel Gauge issue....did a search

    Howdy,

So i have a 68 911 with a 100L Specialty Cars sending unit. Rebuilt gauge, new sending unit, new wiring harness, new tank.

Plug everything in and the gauge immediately hits 4/4 regardless of fuel level. I checked the ground to the gauge; all good. Thought it was the gauge, connected another gauge, same result. I connected the regular sending unit to test, same result. Ran a separate ground from the tank to the body (bare metal restoration so checked to see if sufficient ground)....same result.

I did a search and couldst find the same scenario. Any advise is greatly appreciated. Help!

    Thanks,
    Mauricio

If another gauge and another sending unit result in the same 4/4 reading, it would seem to indicate a problem in the connections between the sender and the gauge. Try running temporary wires between the sending unit and the gauge in place of the wires contained in the harness. Report your results and we'll help you determine which one of the original wires is at fault.

One more detail; when I flip the sending unit over ; the empty light does come on however, the gauge still jumps to 4/4 when the ignition is on

If you connect your meter to the sending unit and slowly move it up-down and put meter on ohms you should see the change in resistance ..
Which tells you the sending unit is working properly. If that’s good then it’s the wires in between or at the gauge wire setup.
