Vasek Polak 1970 Chevy Ramp truck transporter

I've recently acquired the Vasek Polak ramp truck transporter. It was built in 1970, and utilized to carry the 917-10 Can Am car, among others. I was pleased to retrieve it from the gentlemen who bought it from the Vasek Estate in '98. It made its way from Berkley all the way home with me to Phoenix without a hiccup, though it is certainly ready for a full run through.

Before I embark on the restoration, I'd like to find as many period photos as possible. I'd also love to hear any stories, history, or anything that people know about the truck!

    Ekoegs,

I think I remember Vasek brought it out to Pomona CA. for a Vasek Polak tribute to start the vintage races back at that old road race venue, this was in the early '90's..... I remember Milt Minter drive'n the wheels off'a 917 to show everyone how it was done... I think I might have taken a photo of the truck back then, I'll try to dig it up....

There's a few period pics on the internet... but pretty low res... You might want to check with the Revs Institute Photo Archives...

I know I have a period photo in a book somewhere....

Here are two pics I took at Rennsport 5 and 6 …. Of what I would guess as a clone, or two different clones ?

    Good luck on the resto...

I was offered it maybe 3 or 4 months ago, can’t remember. It’s definitely a cool thing, and I probably would have been interested if it was still in its original paint etc. I’m glad it’s going to a great home where it will be nicely restored and really used. I didn’t have a real use nor the room. It’s big! So congrats!
