    Alt/Gen light stays on

I have a 72 911. The altenator was rebuilt last year & the VR was replaced with a solid state unit

Worked OK till last month when the light stays on Very bright at 1st, than dims

I tested at the battery and measured the following voltages

    engine off: 13.2 v

    idle 13.05v

    2500 13.05v

    battery disconnected: 13.2v

I would have thought that the battery should measure about 12.2v

Any ides what is going on? My thought the light is not going out because the battery voltage is as high as charging voltage

    Thanks for the help

    Tom

It's could be a ground to the body. Behind the gauges.
    Hard to find.
And people have had problems with LED gauge lights.

Can you switch out the voltage regulator?

You will get a surface charge if checking battery voltage after running.
You need to leave it sit for a while or put a load on the system like headlights for a few minutes. Also, do NOT run the engine with battery disconnected, alt diode will fail.
Overall your charge rate is too low.
