Thread: Fake Porsche dealer sign

    Fake Porsche dealer sign

I've noticed a new sort of enterprise in the last couple of years. Reproduction of vintage Porsche signs, not only the enamel metal signs professionaly aged but also illuminated signs.
It's quite simple thanks to current technology: You take a worthless old sign, keep the original frame and lighting system, print a new front. Done. You have now a $$$$ sign!
One of the funniest signs is this one inspired to an italian small hard plastic signs "Ricambi Originali" from early 80's ( see pics) . Unfortunately the maker decided to add an english description which is totally wrong as italian Porsche signs never had an english text. Buyers beware!

    Lorenzo,

Totally 100% correct. PCarMarket is one of the worst sites for laundering these fake signs for the person making them. Most of their current auctions (except the Camel GT tin sign (Porsche crest is not correct) ) are these fake signs.

I leant one of my signs a few years ago for someone to make a mold, I got a free sign back for the favor. The trick to picking out the fakes is they shrunk it, so it could be crated and shipped on a 4 X 8 sheet of plywood, the original is too big for that. Hope this helps.

You can see mine in the upper left of this pic, the crate you see in the middle is the new sign, I haven't unpacked it yet, when I do I'll look for other differences.

It's humorous for such an obvious mistake.

And interesting that comments on an item or auction aren't made public... otherwise the site format appears to be identical to BaT.

Same with people who have access to better engraving machines. Have people noticed the steering wheels with porsche, Motorsport, Kremer, Gulf, etc engraved?

    A fool and his money….

Any idea who is behind the site?

I agree, Camel was genuine, others in the "memorabilia" section are all fakes ( IMHO of course)

I sold a genuine steering wheel using the PCar market site. The experience from start to finish was miserable -- definitely won't be going back to them. I won't even browse the offerings there.

The site is claiming that most of the items are authentic, with stories to go along with it. Interesting.

"Available for auction is an authentic 80’s era porcelain Porsche crest. The seller states this crest was passed down from a family member who was an avid collector of Porsche related items."

"The seller states this original dealership sign came from the UK and was present in dealerships during the early 80s. "

    "AUTHENTIC PORSCHE GULF SIGN "
