Just to confirm - did you contact Canford Classics as another poster recommended...I did a lot of research when looking for stickers for my 70 and 73 cars...found there's to be perfect. If you did contact them and they could not help, sorry, I don't have another recommendation>

I haven't heard back from Canford on it. So I'm assuming they don't have this one.

Still trying to figure out why mine is different than all others offered or seen. Beginning to wonder if it has to do with being a factory A/C car. Maybe the change in vehicle capacity is because of the A/C. Not sure if that makes much sense, but that is about the only thing about my car that isn't pretty common.

Ahh! Thanks, Dirk. So the A/C can be ruled out as a reason. Since your car has the same build date as mine, and (as I recall) yours is also a US-spec car, perhaps it is simply a date/market thing.

There were numerous changes to MY '72 cars around 12/71, I now wonder if this is one of those. But if so, you'd think this sticker would be a bit more common than it appears to be.

Got an email from Scott, Operations Mgr. at Canford Classics. They do offer a plate of this version. The data is correct. The font is a bit different, most noticeable in the lower case Ts and Ls. But that's probably not a deciding issue, as the new plates from Porsche don't have the correct font either.

Scott also noted that his plate has the brushed, semi-matte gold finish that he called "original" rather than the shiny, gloss finish that he notes that most other repro plates have. Of course, the original from my car is the gloss finish. So obviously the original finishes from the factory were not 100% consistent.

I've ordered one, will report back when it arrives.

To close this out, the new plate from Canford Classics arrived earlier this week. And it's pretty good.

As promised, it is a heavy aluminum plate, not a thin gold mylar like some I've seen. The color and texture is not exactly the same as the other new plates I got from Porsche, but it's reasonably close. The font—while slightly different than my original—is similar to the font used on the current iterations of new plates from Porsche.

All in all, it's good and I'm satisfied. I suspect that if I had bought all 5 plates from Canford they would all have similar font, color and texture. That would probably be the correct way to go if I were to do this again.
