    Wheel and tire help

A fellow 911 buddy of mine gave me a set of fuchs from an SC for my 1970 911T. They are 16x6's and 16x7's. First question is will these fit on my 70 911? And what size tires would you all recommend I run? I appreciate the help!

Yes, they will fit. Assuming you have stock narrow fenders, you will want to run the same size on all 4 corners. 205/55-16 is the typical size, but be careful to pick a brand that is not over-wide for its size to prevent rubbing and possible paint burning in the rear. A safer choice might be 195/60-16.

    Sell or trade the 16 X 7s for another pair of 6s. 4 16 X 6 wheels with 205 X 55 X 16 tires all around is the sweet spot for a narrow body 911.

Jim is correct, that would be the best option.

Excellent! Arne and Jim, thank you for the advice! It is an unmolested narrow body 911. This is my first classic 911 so still learning what fits and doesn't fit on these cars.

Curious what one defines as sweet spot Jim? Looks, handling, ride?

If a person insists in changing their tire and wheel combo on a narrow 911, 16 X 6 wheels (refinished by Harvey to look like 15s) is a good choice. They don't look out of place, the tire height is almost the same as the 15" wheels with 65 or 70 series tires and you get a wider tread patch. Keep in mind that this is just one person's opinion.

    Ciao

I appreciate all the feedback! Currently my car has 15x6 fuchs but was considering something a little wider in the rear. And I couldn't beat the price of free when it came to the SC fuchs I was given. I'll mainly be doing autocrosses and mountain driving with the car, so it's going to be used for more than just shows.

If you put the 16 X 7 alloys shod with 225 X 50 X 16 tires or even 205 X 55 X 16 tires are going to burn your paint off the quarter panels during an Autocross or spirited driving. I've said this too many times in the past, Porsche did not put 7" wheels (other than 7Rs) of the back of their cars until they added flares. There is a reason for that.

    Regards

    Jim
