Three years of work, raising 1971 from the dead

Today, after turning the key, and pumping and turning and kicking, I restarted the engine on the numbers matching 1971 2.2 911 coupe.
It was three years of work. With a complete disassembly. And completely refurbished. Reusing as many of the birth parts as possible.

The paint was horrific. But it was an essentially rust free, Stockton California car, with only 10 years of driving, the rest in San Francisco indoor storage. Almost no parts were missing, and it was not modified. It had a leaky fuel pump, which I opened and fixed. Along with just about every other issue to deal with: carbs, brakes, pedal cluster, lights, valves, chains, seals, wiring, paint, carpet, seats (which are super difficult), bearings, bushings, alignments, joints, shafts, rubber, tranny, clutch, first gear, window winders, radio fixing, speaker and grill, and those warped, dinged, dented and scratched...door pockets, 7 days to sew a leather steering wheel...hardest thing I think I've done, fix a dash with 15 cracks, 3 days of headliner work, rebuild gauges, refurbished seat belts, all that aluminum trim, With some research, I added a few period correct accessories, etc. etc.
It had about 20 dents in the roof. Another 20 in the hood, and another 20 here and there. Mostly from storage. I spent about 6 months hammering the dents out. Then I painted it, in proper period Olive, about 3 times, with a German Sata gun. (Dreamy)

The photos are a few months back, so I am a little further along today.

I have a few more screws to turn, some rubber to glue and trim to attach, but I did take it on a little drive today.

I'll try to add a video. And some progress photos from years back.

Looks great. There is nothing more rewarding than the first drive in a car that you restored yourself. I’m sure you had an ear to ear smile, and you earned it!
