71T Lobro CV Joints & Transmission Bar Bushings

    Hi Folks,

I have removed the drive shafts as part of a suspension overhaul on my 71T. I have noted that the Lobro CV joints comprise three at 108mm X 31mm, and one at 108 X36mm. I am presuming therefore that at some stage one of the CV's was replaced. I am wondering if there is an issue with keeping this 36mm part, or for the sake of consistency / performance / weight / other, be sourcing a 31mm joint to match the other three.

On another note, the metal CV boot bases have two types, including 2X with the moon washers (and relatively thin gauge steel), and 2X without the moon washers (which woul;d not fit anyway, given the different cup shape). Might this difference been done at the factory, or am I dealing with a later CV Joint on one side? Both seem to have worked fine, just wondering if I need to change?

Lastly, I have a 901 5 speed and the tranny bushes look tired. What options are there for new OEM style bushes? I really am not sure if firmer items are the right way to go for a fast road / sport purpose set machine. Any opinions / thoughts here?

    Many thanks,

    Adam

Adam, there was a change in 911 CV joints, axles and fastening hardware in October 71, for the 72 model cars.
Here are the correct dimensions, from the factory workshop manual...
