Reinforcement in the floor of 911 S Targa 1973.

Wonder why my 911S Targa 1973 has this reinforcement in the floor at the back.

As far as I know, that’s just like the rear torsion bar tube reinforcements of the Carrera RS! In a standard car you can put your hand all the way around the front of the tube between the bulkhead and the tube. In the RS your blocked by the reinforcement from the chassis/bulkhead to the tube. Check it out.

Come on Thomas, what is the answer. Any other 73 T-E-S Targa folks with the same reinforcement. Ed, have u seen this before. Gordon

No, I haven't,,,I'd just chalk it up to an 'oooops' as they were welding up chassis's

Very interesting. It begs the question, did the reinforcement get installed before the floor pan assembly got to a point where the coupe and Targa bodies diverged? That could explain an 'oooops'. How many pieces were part of the reinforcement?

The car was delivered in July 1973 and is one of the last manufactured S Targa. Can it have to do with that?

Probably the 1974 Carrera Targa's (w/911/83 engine) had this reinforcement, same as year's that year's Coupe's and after the 73RS. Since it was such a late 73 build Porsche tried it out on the last Targa's?
