    1969 911T Pop-out Window Seal Inquiry

    To the forum,

Due to an interior cabin whistle at speed, I've taken on the task of replacing the window frame-to-body seal around the pop-out, rear quarter windows.

    901-543-901-20
    901-543-902-20

Initially I purchased a set of aftermarket seals from URO Parts and after navigating the (Significantly more difficult then anticipated) task of installing the seals into the window frames; I reinstalled the windows onto the vehicle and couldn't get the windows to shut properly.

After researching a number of online resources, found a couple comments suggesting that aftermarket seals could be the issue. So I then secured factory Porsche parts and restarted the process in earnest.

While the factory rubber is denser and the seals seem slightly lower profile. I have hit the same issue. When reinstalling the widows, they still do not close to the body correctly.

(Rest assured the seal is installed into the frame accurately, heard the telltale pop across every inch when installing and matches the appearance of what was removed.)

Please see the image included for the issue described above.

Does anyone have information / experience regarding this installation process; as well as, any guidance on the trimming of the seal to fit the door pillar?

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

    Jason

i use dish soap and water to install the seals. impossible without, and soap it all up when i close them.
also there is a white plastic triangle...a spacer that you add inside the car, and it will pull your windows in closer

Loosen the four mounting screws to the B pillar and do some pushing in with the rear latch clamped in shut position.

    rear quarter window seals

Although new to the game I too had difficulty installing with new seals. Nerve racking pulling that latch to the closed position wondering how much pressure that glass would take. Mine have been in foe several months and no whistles.

I fought this one as well, tried two versions of seals, URO and other. Neither worked well, even well lubricated. May not be the most recommended but I took the metal trim off below and used smaller spacer/washers and copied the white plastic spacer behind the hinge mount with a 1/8" spacer. These two changes plus a well lubricated seal produced a nice tight fit when closed. Flush with body.

In re-doing the quarter window seals, this time with Porsche ones, i discovered that the interior channel of the window frame and be a bit course, especially around the areas of the holding screws.
I used folded 200 grit sand paper and lightly sanded off those ridges. The rubber slipped in quite easily in that area after that.

Can you provide a few more photos ….the one provided looks like the frame/seal is very tight at the bottom edge of the body.. but photo is at an angle …
Seal does not look fully engaged in the frame

I've started using a long clamp to hold the the molding in the center straight section. This helps ensure all of the gasket is securely held into the frame.
