I might have posted some of these videos before but can’t remember which .. so what the heck it’s a canter thorough some Earl’s Court roadshows. These little films were shown in movie cinemas alongside main feature movie for folks unable to attend in person. Very much of their era

For 356 fans a short appearance

Some nice footage of car production plants on the 1965 show; Porsche not featured which is a pity as think early 911 was there.

Very brief view of 912 66 show

67 a brief glimpse of a Porsche if can bear watching clip with its patronising sexist voice over

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hZNhWmr_X5k

Pity the merely launched Carrera RS that was at the show didn’t feature

    For 73 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8BFrE4GiSZU

Fast forward to 1974 including the delights of a luxury Vanden Plas edition of the Algro

Ones on car might be the bit more common LHD version of that era?
If only we had an optometrist here who also knew about early RHD 911 lenses

The two page original press release includes the 901 on stand 88 at the Earl’s Court British motor show.

Produced for for the British market by sole Porsche concessionaire AFN printed on imperial foolscap size paper with watermark like many of my other original British documents so not a modern copy — probably quite a rare survivor.
    IMG_1831.jpg
The show catalogue was “half a crown” in old money
    IMG_1776.jpeg
    Porsche exhibited as AFN Ltd
    IMG_1773.jpeg
Date of show was October 1964
    IMG_1772.jpeg

Not the first appearance of a 901 at that show however about a year on from its last appearance it says 901 is going into production
with deliveries of left hand drive being anticipated.

Three page Porsche press release on 25 August 1969 ahead for Earl’s Court motor show covering the 1970 model range on Great Britain

For historians of VW-Porsche and folks interested in 914
models it confirms the rumours of the 914 and 914/6 ahead of appearances the Frankfurt show the following month

Ten page document detailing the links between racing 911 and production 911 written in 1974

    IMG_1834.jpg

Unsurprisingly the factory's review on “production cars- racing cars- production cars” topic begins with the 2.7 litre RS development in the autumn of 1972 since this is when the factory began to move its focus away from specialised racing machines like 908 and 917 and positioned the 911 model front and centre of its factory racing programme in anticipation of the FiA forthcoming rule changes that had been agreed at a meeting hosted by the Royal Automobile Club Great Britain in London
    IMG_1837.jpg
This chart on the appendix has become well known but perhaps it originates here.
    IMG_1838.jpg

For students of the 2,7 RS it is interesting to note the 2,7 RS position in the Rennsportwagon line, not the Komfortwagon line like the subsequent 2,7 Carrera and Turbo (930).

So many commentators miss the foundational role of the special limited edition 2,7 RS especially those 1000 chassis that were leichtbau coupes built in special ways specifically to be used as evidence to gain homologation of 911 when doing so was absolutely vital to the factory own racing endeavours for the coming years as well as contributing to the overall Porsche story. Thirogh 2,7 himogaton the Porsche 911 was reframed to become very much front and centre of the factory’s racing activity for years to come (rather than supporting their customer’s racing their 911 products as it had essentially been previously. Pleasing to read that Porsche in 1974 understood the where the 2,7RS sits on its history and appreciated that pivotal role. As others noted “Racing improves the breed”.
