    Classic 9 self-install leather for 40cm wheel

    Can anyone add any possibilities in 2020 for a nice kit to re-wrap the originally leather wrapped 40cm wheel in my '72T? Yes, I know I could send it to Tony or Dallas and get it back in stunning condition. It's not only the cost, I really like doing things like this myself.

    Alan Gunn looks to have retired, and the quality of his stuff was sometimes a bit spotty anyway.

    Lakewell offers a kit that could be nice, but I'm having a little problem getting my mind around paying 59€ to ship a small scrap of leather.

    I've seen old references to a kit from Classic 9, but they don't show any longhood stuff on their website and haven't replied to an email inquiry.

    Any other ideas or leads?

    i got my leather from a guy in texas..but cannot remember the name...it took me 9 nights to sew it...i had to restart it 3 times...and could go about 2 inches a day.
    it was the hardest part to work on, on my car.
    if i did it again, i would have had the guy sew it.

    Yes, I've done this before on non-Porsches. It is not as easy as it seems like it should be. But gratifying when complete.

    Update - I posted too soon. Just heard from Classic 9 saying they do still have that pattern and can make me a kit. I am ordering one now, will post back on the results.

    I think I still have the curved needles from when I redid my '68 wheel. They may be over with Renee. Let me know if you need them.

    Arne,

    Please keep us posted on your impression of the kit, a friend of mind is in need also. I have seen some of Classic 9's work posted on RL/Pelican for water cooled cars, I seem to recall overall positive feedback/results. To my eye many of the kits from others look to have a lot of grain in the leather, where originals that I have seen were quite smooth.

    I don't yet know if the Classic 9 kit comes with needles or not John. I'll ping you if I need them.

    Possibly. But I do like doing things myself when I can. In many cases it's just a matter of taking my time with it.
