71T engine bay - fuel supply

    Hi All,
I'm currently restoring a 71T that I bought incomplete in boxes. Now I'm working the engine bay and the PET is not very clear (to me) on the fuel supply for my car.

So from the hard line protruding the left frame rail. What happens then?

    1) For an original setup. What kind of filter? Fuel accumulator? What kind of "T-fitting" or divider for each carb?

    2) What kind of good, reliable and nice looking, after market setup would you recommend from the hard line to the two carbs?

    Thanks for any input!

The factory setup shown in the attached workshop diagram shows no filter. My experience is that an inline filter is a must with today's fuel and carbs. On my '73 with PMO carbs, I run three filters. One downstream of the fuel pump and one each before each of the carb inlets. Without filters, idle jet plugging is a consistent problem. I also use an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to ensure consistent fuel pressure to the carbs. My setup is dead ended (no fuel return line).

I do have a few sets of the original hard "T" lines that feed the carbs. PM me if you would like a set.

Thanks for your input Tom! That image is very schematic. I am pretty certain though that the fuel pump is in the front originally. And that the T had no return fuel line from the engine bay. I will probably not go the original setup route, but I'm very curious on what it looked like on my -71T when new.

The fuel pump moved from the front to the back in '71.

A lot of '71's were produced early with the fuel pump in front .

Ok, that explains it. I have an early Karmann car. Anyone got images of the original setup for a T with pump in front?

Thanks Tom, sorry for not being clear... I meant original setup for the engine bay (for car with pump in front).
