First press mentions of new Carrera RS in British Motoring magazine

For students of the history behind limited edition 911744 homologation model as reported in British motoring press in august 1972 edition, reporting on the 25th June race appearance as a prototype ....
Although it was entered by Paul Strahle the astute Jenks was on to the fact it was in reality a factory car and picked up on some details ...

And in November 1972 edition reporting on October 1972 Paris motorshow by which time the first owner of my RHD example had already placed his order/s and details were already entered into Porsche production scheduling system according to papers in my files...

Jenks again, picking up on small pointers that many of his contemporaries simply missed.

The history and significance of the change to racing approach starting with the prototype and then the limited edition 500 homologation special is now well known on Porsche history but he spotted something was afoot as it was happening over summer and autumn of 1972 based on rule changes and various factory little clues around the emergent carrera ...

There was a quota of 51 RHD of the 500 but they sold out immediately
Attachment 522315 so Porsche announced a second 500 the week of the earls show around mid October 1972...as reported here on a British weekly
A little over 300 911744 examples were built in calendar 1972 of which roughly 15 RHD
From that quota of 51 of the 500 planned were completed by 31 December.

The unexpected sales success of the model probably meant this advert appearing in a weekly magazine aimed at the well heeled country set coinciding with the Earl’s Court show around mid October was unnecessary to move the Carrera RS but there were other models to move including the new with RHD 911 targa.

...with nominal publication date 19 October possibly one of the earliest photos of Carrera RS in mainstream (not motoring) magazine ...

Porsche Cars Great Britain hastily reprinted the British market price list in mid October for the Earl’s Court show to include the newly launched Carrera RS as the model had not been included in the similar model year 1973 county price list printed only a few weeks earlier.
