A company to clean removed 44 yr. old carpets?

Would you say, a carpet cleaning company that specializes in Persian carpets would be the safest bet to get the job done without harming 44 year old Porsche carpets?

I have had good success soaking them overnight in Woolite.

I don't know, first, if using Woolite will get them as clean as a commercial company and second I suspect they might be fragile and I might do some damage.

Well, I'd check with a rug seller in your area...you might be surprised. When we last bought some high quality hand knotted wool rugs I asked the seller how to best maintain and clean them.

    His answer was basically...

"These rugs are incredibly durable and can last hundreds of years. When someone brings one in for cleaning we basically just use hot soap and water, a broom, and a garden hose to clean and rinse it and then let it dry".

Just a heads up. Good luck with your cleaning.

...and please post your results when done. I've been looking for some original carpeting from a 67 912 to use in lieu of new and would love to know what you did.

What Mike said. Woolite & warm water, then wetvac, or call a good detailer. Old carpets aren't fragile unless they've been chemically damaged.

Well paid a visit to the Persian carpet dealer and they said they couldn`t do them - too old and fragile. If you try to bend one of the carpets you can hear a crunchy sound, but I believe it is the vinyl edging that is cracked in numerous areas on each part of carpet.
The fibers are tight and don't pull out when I tug on them.
I have cleaned carpets before but nothing this old.
