    Dash Switch & Firewall/Bulkhead Grommets

    Hey All

Where can one readily acquire replacement grommets for the dashboard switches, ciggy lighter, & the 3 headed
monster for the Bowden heater cables? Mine are pretty rotten - a 1970 - & quite useless. I purchased an
aftermarket kit from the FLAPS of generic replacement grommets & body plugs for a few other situations
but I still require a source for some of the more specialized types.
    Thanks in advance

    Cheers
    JB

    JB,

The heater cable grommet is part number 914.571.151.10 and you should be able to get it through the usual sources.

    JB,

I took a look at one of the older parts catalogs I have for reference, it shows two grommets. One looks to be the blanking plug and the other looks to be for the switches.

999.703.066.50 (looks to be the blanking plug)
999.703.067.50 (for switch) Many of the searches for this point to a 356 plug but I found one ebay listing showing what looks to be the grommet.

    Good luck,

Thanks Guys & Thanks Andrew for the heater cable grommet (luckily still available) number.
The search for switch types is going to be a bit more of a challenge.

    Cheers

    JB,

Was the ebay linked grommet not what you are looking for?

I took a look at my grommets (999.703.067.50) for upper dash switches and lighter just to confirm and attached a few photos below from my '72, I would think the same would apply to your '70. These look to fit about a 26-29mm diameter component.

There are various holes, maybe if you have a picture of the location or switch that would help?

    Thanks,

Sure do look the part Andrew. I happened to mention my predicament to another
Porsche guy & hopefully he has some in the proverbial "spare parts box" from some
previous projects. I'll be seeing him sometime next week so I'll let you know how
    things work out.

    Thanks again
    Cheers

Some of this stuff is tough to find. I'm starting to look around for an alternative for 914-559-251-10 which is a blanking plug for the washer fill hole in the front slam panel. (Used on factory A/C cars when the reservoir was relocated.) NLA from Porsche, no luck finding a similar plug that fits yet.

    JB,

I am glad to hear your grommets are sorted.

    Arne,

That blanking plug would have to be bigger (46mm opening) than the upper dash blanking plug (36mm opening). I have a local friend with a handful of 914 spares. I'll send a note.

    Thanks,
    -Andrew
