    1973 RS help

    Hello all.

    I’m looking to buy a 1973 RS.

    This car is close by, #1364. Does anyone have any information or history on this particular car?

    The seller has a fair amount of provenance history documentation including a picture of the engine S/N stamp prior to the full nut and bolt restoration (2013). To my eye, the old engine S/N stamp and the current stamp don’t look totally consistent. Does anyone have any insight?

    First picture = S/N stamp pre-2013 (not sure of precise date)
    Second picture = current S/N stamp

    Stampings look consistent to me. A little corrosion which would be expected over the last 7 years is throwing an appearance of difference. I'm sure if both pictures were taken from the same angle and relative proximity, it'd be clearer.

    All the casting marks elsewhere line up too. Easier to see if you rotate one of them. Same engine in the two photos.

    Also consider either of the two that Porsport has. Don is the proprietor and great to work with.

    By 1364 though i doubt it has the lightweight steel shell or the lightweight glass, or early tail. So it’s an S with a bigger motor.

    So it needs to be discounted accordingly. Even then many of us want a pay a premium for Series 1. Or earlier series 2.


    I’d check it out. If not lightweight steel then I’d personally pass.

    Personally I don't agree, whilst the first 500 cars will undoubtedly, and rightly, command a premium, all the 1500-odd Carrera's have a place in Porsche history and deserve to be revered.

    Yes it's true that Porsche ran out of lightweight bodies and many other items throughout the production run (including mag engines) but that's part of the story and how many cars are still 100% original anyway retaining all the metal that came from the factory? I'm sure there are many later series cars out there today that are far superior vehicles than their earlier siblings. If I was ever in the fortunate position to be able to own an RS I'd be looking for the best example I could find and the VIN would be a second consideration.

    I don't know anything about #1364 but to say it's an S with bigger motor is a little disingenuous..........all genuine cars of the whole series are real 2.7RS Carrera's and that's pretty damn cool imo
