    Throw out bearing noise?

On my 73 911 with 915 transmission, it seems like there is a throw out bearing noise that has started.

It is a dry light whirring noise. I hear it when I start the car when it is cold. It gets a bit worse when I press in the clutch. As the car warms, first the sound with the clutch pedal not touched goes away quickly. Then the sound when pressing in the clutch goes a way a few minutes later. So about 5-10 min it seems completely gone.

I don't fully know the operations of the 915 throw out bearing. I would initially assume it would not make any noise without touching the clutch pedal. But I'm now assuming and hoping that I am wrong, and a 915 throw out bearing does do that.

Thoughts on if it is the throw out bearing? If it is, can it completely fail soon? Or will it just keep making more noise?

Might also be the pilot bearing making noise until the grease warms up a little.

First, Ed, thank you for your continued involvement in this site and continuing to answer question after question! I guess my more important question is that TOB or pilot bearing, what is the failure mode/expectation? Will the noise just keep getting worse, or could something let loose and cause more catastrophic damage while driving?

At this point I'd just monitor the noise, if the duration or noise level starts increasing you will have to address it. If the clutch has a lot of miles on it then it would be a good time to address everything.
