    Stand by Eric. I'll check tomorrow. interesting banter around this early 911 minutia. I think it's great and a reason I enjoyed joining this forum 15 years ago. Thanks for your knowledgeable input.

    I don't have any other photos, but the one on the left is ribbed, the right one is pebble finish... they're what came with the car when we bought it. I've since matched the ribbed one.

    Considering how slack the ribbed one is, bet the rubber would slip off pretty easily.

    Eric, the plastic ribbed piece is easily removable.

    The one on the right is definately correct for a later 73 Targa and I believe all 73 Targas (the pebble finish) I know that from my concours resto and research of a late 73S 15 years ago

    That car came with pebbled finish handles. I think not too much later the length of the shaft changed to longer though with same pebbled handle and the one in the pic looks like one of the later longer ones.
