steering inner tube protudes too far in the dashboard 1967

    Hello,

I reinstalled the steering inner tube and the steering column assembly.

I do have a problem with the gap between the dashboard and the switch box : more than one inch.

The column is already hitting the steering inner tube and the mystery pin location is at the good place.

I cannot understand how this is possible but it looks like the steering inner tube is too long.

It used to mount correctly on the car before there restoration and i did replace the rubber grommets of the inner steering tube with new

    Thanks

    Florent

No only to cowl and suspension pan

Something definitely wrong with installation of the cover seen at the foot. Bolts are too high up relative to the bushings. How did you get the bolts in? Units should be slid downward (toward front of car). This might have an influence on the problem of protrusion at the dash board, or it might be meaningless. I only know that the bolted-down structure at the foot should not look like this. Additionally, your yoke lock plate is upside down. The arch should point to the front of the car, not toward the dash.

....and the washers are to small + the yoke lock plate should sit on top of them not under...

maybe the lower part of the dash is bent?it does not take much....

also stick your head in the legroom (pedal cluster) and have a look if some welding was done to the area where the tube bolts..it`s a area known to rust whan water leaks in the trunk

I did install the bolts first maybe in the middle of the bushing and sleeve. Then i pushed the tube downward to reduce the gap at the dashboard to the maximum. I believe it is the reason the sleeve and bushes have a oblong shape : in order to adjust the distance.

Maybe i should tighten more those bolts in order to compress the newish bushes. Thank you for the tip for the yoke lock plate.

Great info and measures you give me. Thank you.

Maybe it is bent but i believe it is more a problem with newish bushes of the steering inner tube + a visual optic because i don't have the trim on the dashboard. I mean one or 2 mm here and here and i do have too much at the end.

The pedal cluster and front pan has been replaced but not the upper part where the tube bolts.

I'll take some measurements about how far the tube protrudes.
