Question on 73 Bosch Horns - repair or loss?

    Dear all,

In the stash I bought there had been also a set of Bosch horns, high tone and low tone, stamped 325, which should make them a 73 built?

They cleaned up nicely and on testing the low tone failed. Some Balistol overnight and the screws went open...

    Desaster and complete destruction...

    Now my question:
Is there a fix to make that horn working again?
    Are parts for repair available?
or is this a complete loss?

In any way...the high tone is working and if someone wants...for sale..

as always thank you in advance

I think these are easy to fix.
You just wrap yourself a new coil.
On eBay. They sell coil magnet wire.
Just match the gauge and winding #.
I have done it several time.

If these are so easy to fix then why does no one offer a repair service?

Perhaps you just triggered someone to start one! All that's needed is a armature winding rig to simplify and standardize the process.

First thing I thought of when Scott suggested rewinding the coils and your question was a guy I know in Memphis that hand-winds guitar pickups.
Not huge volume but his rep is solid, and he makes a living. I doubt there are enough bum old car horns to pay the bills, but it could be a good sideline.

hauls horns rather need new breaker-plate than a coil... and yes those horns are easy to fix if you have spare parts

The easiest fix of all is to buy some of the black ones and swap the plastic trumpets over.

Problems solved and the blacks ones are relatively cheap in new condition.
