Stoddard modern 911 seat belt replacements

I have the seats out of my 1973 911E and want to address at minimum the aged webbing of the seat belts. I plan to drive the car regularly and want to improve safety. I can send off the originals to be rewebbed. Alternatively I can purchase a kit sold by Stoddard. https://www.stoddard.com/sic80301200...01200-sic.html

    Pros/Cons:

Stoddard belts don’t look as original but will likely be safer; the components such as latch and retractor are 50 year old parts and a 50 year old design. Since it’s a bolt in kit, I can revert in the old units in the future so its reversible. Another pro is I think the turn-around time will be much less buying the new parts.

Does anyone have experience with the Stoddard kits?

Turnaround might not be as long as you think. I had the non-retractable 3-point belts in my early '72 re-webbed by seatbeltplanet.com. Turnaround was about 10 days including shipping both ways.

Correct webbing and labels here if you decide to refurbish your originals.

Pretty sure you can provide the correct webbing from Stretch to any of the seat belt refurb companies like Ssnake-Oyl.com or seatbeltplanet.com and they can install it.

I have used seatbeltplanet for my '72 targa and both my 914's. Happy with the results and decent turn around.

I got webbing from stretch and had snakeoyl do the work. They look good, but the inertia reals tend to snatch. For safety’s sake, I think I would go for the stoddard kit today and save the originals.

Reels: I stopped trying to use the original reels a few years ago now. Some have had limited success in freeing up there old original reels, but like an old spring mattress the spring loses tension after 40 odd years.

Most seat belt companies will sell you a multi angled reel. As the reels on the 72-on cars are hidden with the vinyl covers it's a no brainer not to replace the old noisy worn out reels. New reels, correct webbing and labels, re -plated hardware.... good as new.

The multi angled reels are also great if you want to upgrade the 69-71 3 point fixed belts as you can locate the reel in any location or angle and it will work, unlike the original reels that only retract at a certain angle.

If you don't fancy the hassle then i often make these sets and offer them for sale on the registry.

    Webbing :

Most seat belt outfit's should have no issue with using supplied webbing. Of course they would like to sell you the incorrect stuff, but if you want it correct...! All my webbing is fully tested and exceeds the worldwide industry safety standards for seat belts. If any company want's specification data for my webbing i am only to happy to supply this to anyone. Currently i have the 72-on Black webbing which was fitted to Repa and Autoflug reels for US and rest of world cars. The original poster has purchased this from me. Many thanks.

I hope to offer the Euro version 72-on webbing with the Orange tracer for sale in the coming weeks. Stock is low at the moment.

I also have limited stock of the 4 panel Black American safety / Hickok webbing fitted to many SWB cars.

    Keep safe.

Hi David, thanks for all the info. You should have my payment by now for the webbing. What’s typical ship time to the US?

Side question; are those 72-> covers available from somewhere as repro? I'd recover (and most likely re-fit) them anyway so just the cover bit would be perfect. (I have added all mounting points to my 67' during restoration, front and back. Interior will be "original" apart rectractable seatbelts and possibly these covers.) It would be quicker to buy then than building molds and laminate them, which is not that hard tbh either.
