Return buyers payment and start a new sale for the same item.
Raise the price to cover your lost shipping expense.

Decide whether to sell to same or a new buyer.
Saves all the back and forth With no resolution
    Keep it simple

This would be nice and fully acceptable to me but the screwdrivers seem to be lost in the postal system somewhere so neither the buyer (me) nor the seller (Al) have possession.

Just to round this thread off.

I don’t have the screwdrivers, I don’t have a refund, but Al has worked hard on trying to recover the lost screwdrivers with emails to the postal service and to me to keep me up to speed. After several months we have been informed there is no possibility of recovery and the postal service refunded the basic minimum insured amount to Al which he kindly topped up a little to ease my pain. So, whilst I haven’t received a full refund we have agreed on a compromise. No one is really happy but it’s about the best outcome we could have hoped for.
    Thanks Al.

    Regards
    Mike

Now, if only I had some communication about the missing 3000 euro Fuchs wheels on this thread. Never heard a word in months,

As a buyer, I could care less about the post office screw ups. Mike deserves his full refund. End of story.

I feel bad for the seller but don’t blame the buyer.
