Agree, Tom was also very helpful when I was weighing options.

    $2,100 in todays dollars.

From ancient recollection, CN36's wore strangely and I ran XWX's because they were the ticket BITD.

I run AVON CR66ZZ on the '74 911 and they do stick. I'll probably use them on the '67 if and when it gets re-tired. Not a mileage tire but I like the feel.

    Thumbs up

    Tom,

I probably have one of those receipts from the early '80's for my hotrod VW...
In 15" smaller/fatter staggered size, I think made for the Saabs at the time....

HOWEVER, as said, IMHE they were CRAP in period !!!! ....

They wore fast, and became hard a rocks WAY too soon ......

    Today's repop new compound CN36's are da'bomb ...

I hope these tires are as good as you guys say. They should get tested in the next couple weeks, weather permitting. 185 F, 215 R on 7's and 8's. The car should have some decent grunt. 3.2, 9.6 CR, S cams, IN/TRE RSR induction, OUT/41 mm SSI. With the displacement and S cams I'm guessing the engine will act more like an E than an S. We'll see.

Since chuck has commented on the original covers … This my original week 12 1973 tyre essentially nos German-made Pirelli CN36 still got the remnants of the makers label and mould flashing pimples etc. They were rayon-belted tube type the steel belted tubeless Pirelli didn't come along until the mid 70s G series. I have a set of 185/70 and 215/60 for show came from a RHD RS so got them from owner for static display purposes as my car still has its origins Mexico blue Fuchs one of the 205 RS that was delivered that much copied colour scheme. Seemed apt to save these time expired covers from the skip to store as reference in combination with the factory finish painted Fuchs :

Interesting to compare to the modern ones.

For model year 73 only the limited edition Carrera RS received the 215/60VR15 CN 36 — I am not aware of this innovative cover being used in any other marque or model at that particular time.

I think the 73 RS was the first 911 road going-car to get the different staggered front and rear rim tyre configuration that henceforth became (one of) the Porsche 911 recognisable feature even to folks with little car knowledge. Getting into detail the 215/60 VR 15 on 7J15 wheels was fitted as part of the conversion order process. The fahzeug-auftrag( production order) of my RS in base RS configuration had different setup which then crossed out and the final Pirelli ones hand annotated by the worker or supervisor of the workshop where the cars were taken after the the chassis was recorded as one of that first 500 series for FiA Honologation certification. Cars after the nominal 1000 didn’t get that double handling as weren’t weighed as all but a very few weren’t homolgation cars they were heavier productionized. Also later in the model’s lifecycle Dunlop Sport in the size 215/60 VR15 That Pirelli had hitheto uniquely supplied for earliest RS only came available and were fitted interchangeably with Pirelli’s on the RS.

For those who like facts the Carrera RS on 6 & 7 J15 wheel with the original cn36 185/70vr 15 front and 215/60VR15 rear achieved the then record 0.912g lateral acceleration. Even after 2-3 years development the new range topping 930 lunched middle of seventies on 7 & 8 J15 with P7 205/50 and 225/50VR 15 covers was only capable of matching (not exceeding) that preimpact benchmark 0.912g of the lighter more balanced weight distribution of RS from late 1972.
