    1967 911S Returns to Slate

Closing in on completion! One of the things I wanted to do was keep the original interior... carpet was too far gone, unfortunately. Headliner we tried, but it was damaged in removal.
But everything else has been cleaned and massaged and looks perfect. The seats (photos to come) have the vibe of a well loved leather jacket, and the dash and knee bar are sublime.

Slate gray is interesting, taking on hues in reflection and different light conditions. Even though I love the interior patina, I was sorely tempted to change the black to green... still think about it.

Great looking car, and I like the fact that you have tried to keep the interior as original as possible.

I've always struggled with trying to describe the restoration philosophy I used for my interior, including why we didn't blast it and replace all the vinyl, knobs etc. "Well loved leather jacket" is exactly the right term!

    Nice work!

Freshened and ready to motivate... car was built on September 2 1966, so the Webers are stamped "S". Always thought that was kinda neat.

Slate + SWB + sympathetic restoration...not sure it gets much better, at least for me.

    Car looks great, Russ!

Thanks for the props, guys... but to be honest, only the soft bits of the interior can claim "sympathetic" restoration. Instruments, window frames and the like all saw professional refurbishment.

The rest of the car was a labor and cash intensive bare-shell effort, but we call the car "the Birthday Gift" for a reason, and like our '64 VW Bus, will never sell it. Not upside down but wouldn't care anyway.

We are fortunate to have had one of the best shops in the Southeast execute body and paint, it's spectacular in person. Looking forward to getting some good photos in natural light!

Looks really great! Hope to see more photos of the restoration process... love slate - did you use single stage? Whose carpet and headliner? Thanks!

Thanks, Stephen... I see you also have a Slate car underway. Get going!

I really wanted to stick with single stage as I feel the finish is more natural. Our Bus, the T34, my wife's Targa and the Notch are finished old-school. Unfortunately, neither Sikkens or Glasurit offer Slate in single stage.
This is Glasurit 55 line with clear coat, but truthfully, it doesn't have the glassy quality you'd expect... Mr. Michaelian was adamant about his finishing technique. I shouldn't have doubted him, it looks right.

Headliner is from Tony, underlayment felt (great kit, quality and accuracy) from Stoddard. Hargaarn from GAHH. The one piece of leather that was knackered was the parcel shelf, as you might expect.
I found a source that had an old hide that matched the other interior leather perfectly, you cant tell it's been replaced. See below, only the parcel tray is new.
