i agree with you richard only here in this forum is spoken of "aftermarket" in such seats. but that's the prevailing vocabulary here - I also had to learn it first (swb/lwb)

for the price: somewhere there is definitely someone with a red interior - you have to find him ;-)

The screwdriver is a joke… your joke.
Please reply to my questions in the concerned thread where the seat was sold. Thanks!

It’s not dealer installed would be better since with the exception of upholstery and/or badge is it the same seat from the same company made in the same era and sometimes even the same year.

    Just my $.02

Ok, I will use “not dealer installed” as from now and will tell that to all other who call it aftermarket.

The aftermarket is the set of companies active in the distribution of spare parts, accessories and so on. It can be OEM manufacturers providing the same or similar parts with the same or different branding and specifications.

So aftermarket is what comes after the factory production.

The same goes e.g. for Blaupunkt radios that could be bought with “Blaupunkt” logo in every store (called aftermarket) to be placed after the production process, while they were fitted with “Porsche” script in the factory at the same time.

The factory used the Hirschmann Auta 4000 C71L antenna, but it was also available on the aftermarket to be installed after the production process. There were also universal antennas.

Spare parts and accessories are aftermarket, but can be from Porsche, Recaro…

So a non perforated Recaro 1968 Sports Seat is aftermarket (installed as an accessory after the production process), while perforated Recaro 1968 Sport Seats were by the Porsche factory installed. Both products are identical to a large extent, however the value of Porsche factory installed parts is higher on the market.

The Hirschmann Auta 4000 C71L in and outside the factory were identical.

The Blaupunkt radio’s were identical except for the branding.

I am familiar with the Beemer scene :-). When I was born, my grandfather drove a 1602.

The weather was fine today. I was probably enjoying it. I heard The Netherlands suffered a little bit more of the recent storms.

So we use another definition of aftermarket. By referring to it as “not factory installed”, we should be able to understand eachother for this matter.
