    '73 911T MFI questions

Cousins, I am bringing back my '73 911T with 58K miles, MFI fuel injection. It's been sitting for about 20 years, so my son and I are going through the fuel system first. We have the tank out, will clean it up, and inspect to see if it can be used or needs to be replaced. We also plan to clean out the fuel lines, replace hoses, fuel filter, etc. I am somewhat resigned to send the MFI pump to a rebuilder, but what should I do before I take the pump out? I.E., should we try to start the car, see what happens, run Seafoam or some such through the system, etc. What about the injectors? Lastly, what MFI guys are recommended for a refurbish?

Mark Jung is a helpful guy for all things MFI.

He also correctly diagnosed my PMO issue late at night without hearing my motor run.

I sent my pump and all 6 injectors to Mark at MFIWerks. They came back ready to go, and Mark then identified a hard-to-find issue with fuel delivery, just from me describing the problem here. Highly recommended.

I would not try to start it before having the pump serviced. You don't want to force the sludge and varnish to move around and potentially make things even worse.

You can refurbish an MFI pump to specs and Mark and a number of others are geniuses in this regard. If the rest of the motor is stock, then just small adjustments to the MFI will get your CO2 into spec and off you go. If your engine isn't stock, then you really need to modify the space cam to match fuel to air flow, and that can only be done with the motor and the MFI on a dyno.
