Your memory is spot on. It was actually a NOS RH, a very lightly used LH, and a patched up LH one. I believe Dave DiMaria was also working on repros.

I'm thinking the 914/6 muffler had the heat shield only on the top.

The tell for me is no muffler seam, which in the 911’s, is used with the muffler support bracket and straps to hold the muffler. The 914-6 used the support bracket that bolted to the trans and the 2 inner muffler bolts. G

The owner and enthusiast Mark Wegh has complete knowledge of the items you are looking to replicate.
His company recently completed the restoration of 300 113. This is the forth 901/911 that they have done.

His publication (#009) "Timeless" documents this car and photos of the exchangers are accurate.

Both Mark in the Netherlands and Dave DiMaria in Colorado, USA have repaired, restored and needed to fabricate
the exhausts you are looking to make. I suggest you view Tinmantech documentaion of the forms, dies and
extensive completeness Kent needed to produce a set Dave De Maria commissioned for the car that was shown
    at the Quale 300 134. http://allmetalshaping.com/showthread.php?t=12325

    (More work than they look).

Bob are you sure that Mark Wegh has not bought them from Freisinger?
