    1969 CV Joint Assembly Issue

Original CVS were disassembled to replace cracked boots and inspect. Wear was minimal so flipped inner ball hub for new wear surface and reassembled with inner ball hub in correct orientation. Added CV grease to both sides and slid on axle to work it around. Very rough and sometimes tight movement. I may have erred not keeping track of ball locations. Is this tightness and roughness normal and will smooth out with use ?
    Thanks

Are you sure you have the right orientation? The inner hub has three narrow knuckles and three wide knuckles. The narrow knuckles need to point to the wide areas of the outer hub between the ball bearings. If you have it correct you’ll know what I’m talking about; maybe you could send a photo

Thanks John. Yes they are correctly oriented. To day I permaneny installed on axle with circlips fully seated. Axial movement is smooth. It's the tilting that can get rough. Maybe I am overtilting.

If there's an angle and a place where it is smooth and easy...then they are probably just fine.
    There's kinda a perfect spot.
    Sounds like you found it.
It can be a super messy job. Congrats on your work.

It would have been better to change the complete CV from side to side to change the wear surface that is under load , now new surfaces to each other have to brake-in .
