What can you tell us about the provenance of this sign?

+1 on the question John ... there are so many of these coming out of the woodwork, one could almost assume they were being made just now!

If it is genuine, it will have traceable manufacturer information and date codes, like one I have in the garage.

Looks very similar to the one I bought from Restoration Design a few years back. Same size.

Not too long ago a guy in Canada had several for sale. He offered me a discount if I bought more than one. Was not looking for reproduction so I walked away. All came without the aluminum housing/frame, just the plastic sign. Someone out there is reproducing these.

Do ALL factory signs have this information?

My sign was used as the template for the current batch of repro's you see for sale, that are shrunk to 4X8, so they fit on a standard piece of plywood for shipping. The originals are bigger than that.

The sign came down from the dealership Porsche Bernardsville, NJ in 1980 when they closed. It was then acquired by the owner of Autohaus of Morris County, NJ, because he was friends with the manager of the dealership. Autohaus was a highly respected Porsche repair and restoration shop and well known in the area for reputable work. I am selling it on behalf of Autohaus. The frame shows and old fluorescent sockets and ballast show that it’s from the period as described, not a reproduction. It’s legit. It was made by Benco Industries. There are more more detailed pictures at the auction showing its originality. Sorry I don’t have more information than that but I can try to answer more questions. Thanks for your interest.
