Questions about spark arrestor backfire grid

    Hi.
I wanted to ask some questions about the spark arrestor. The one at the back of the aircleaner.
I don't know what cars they came on. But I remember them on 912s too.

    Are these a necessary item?
Do they sometimes fill with oil and promote a fire?
    How do you clean them?
Do you need to replace them after a while?

What are they made of? Brass? Brass wool?

Does anyone have a used one?

Scott, I looked for a year and never found a used one. Aase has one now for half the new price. https://www.aasesales.com/products/e5k-118560 .
And they are available new from Porsche. 901 107 729 00.
Surprisingly expensive, but will last our lifetimes.
