that is always a problem I have (had) a matching patina 70 911 t coupe that got hit in the right door while parked. NOW I have to get the whole car refinished which means I have to have matching trim, which means all new! Old trim on new paint looks like hell, unfortunately

    Commenting on dr914,
My favorite cars at the historic races, or Monterey. Or mille miglia. Italy , etc: are the cars with perfect paint but scratched up glass and birth metal trim. It's my favorite combo. (And faded decals)
    Not trim that was neglected.
Fully restored cars I just walk by them.
But I love really good paint. That has a correctness to it.

I had the same debate which was discussed on my repaint thread. I got a new set of letters to go with a NOS 911S badge. I really do like the contrast on fresh silver paint, but the patina’d look is also nice. I agree that you have to consider the entire condition/look of the car.

Yeah. The car has moved away from the ‘patina’ and more towards the freshened. I tried to keep as much original as humanly possible. Even reconditioned the original leather seats and interior panels as opposed to re-covering them. But it needed carpet and it needed a dash. And paint. The car was wearing three different shades of silver. It had never been hit and never rusted or welded but the previous owner started painting one panel at a time. I couldn’t stomach that. I’ll take faded, scratched, dented, but not mismatched color.

...and mismatched silver is probably the most obvious, and hardest to stomach. How about some more pictures of that car?
