Picture of speedometer cable at gearbox for a 901?

    Hello Early 911S Registry,

My first post and my first early 911 (1970 911S Targa)

After returning from my first road trip I noticed my speedometer stopped working. I checked both ends of the cable and found the problem at the transmission end:

    Attachment 529051

Does anybody have a picture of the speedometer cable entering the angle drive on the 901 gearbox? Mine had quite some angle and I am wondering if it is normal or I need to try and try and rotate the angle drive. Is the angle drive a single piece or is there a collar into the gearbox that would allow the drive to rotate if I loosen it a bit (if I can get in there) or is the angle drive a single piece and I would have to try and tighten it and not do more harm?

I think the angle on mine it put stress on the cable leading to be break but I'm not sure.

I've ordered to original Porsche part# 901-741-111-01 (not the GEMO OEM) replacement to ensure it is the correct length and I don't want it to fail again after fishing the new cable.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

That large (27mm?) nut came loose allowing the angle drive to rotate. Cable should be a straight in shot.

It looks like you found the problem. There should be no kink.
Cables come out firewall and stay pretty parallel.

Thank you Scott and Ed. Much appreciated. I'll get in there and rotate the angle drive when I get my new cable.
