Thread: Gauging interest in reproduction of early style SWB muffler

  1. #31
I am interested in one for a 1967 911S produced in March of '67. A little confused as to whether this would require version one, version two or version three. Can your repro work for this. Have you posted prices yet?

I have interest in one also. Thx

Too many Porsches and one VW are starting to fill up my desert landscape.

I am interested in a 100% correct reproduction muffler for a September 1966 delivered 67S.

I had not yet delved into the Leistritz muffler business. Until now I had assumed that the tried and tested rear muffler, which I got with the purchase, was the original one.

Through the rust I thought I could read:
901/1 (at the bottom in the middle - 9 partly welded over)
    Leistritz 901.011.08/04 66 9

After reading this thread, I assume that it is "901.011.08/04 69".

@Joris: Please let me know if this muffler can be of interest to you for further analysis or dissection. I suspect however that they have emptied the whole inside in the past to have a straight flow to the outside.

Thanks for the positive comments and expression of interest. I will report back here once we have the first piece ready which should be shortly. This is no large scale endeavor but done to get a correct muffler for my car and a 901 a friend is working on. As with all things once you have entered the rabbit hole....

Thanks for the offer to dissect the other muffler. I think for now we are fine.

    Excellent work Joris!

It would be great if the correct muffler tip with squared edge would be available somewhere. I know JPGroup promised to improve their parts… I hope Eric Linden will run another batch once…

Quick update. Things are still moving. We redid the Leistritz and 901/1 stamps as I was not happy with them. Awaiting the first shields so that we can finish the prototype muffler. As soon as we have a firm handle on this and I can commit on dates I will contact everybody who expressed an interest.

Great news! E. Linden is going to perform a re-run of the square edge muffler tips.

First prototype is nearly completed. Always more work than expected but quite happy with how it is turning out. We are waiting for the insulation material so that we can weld everything shut. I will be contacting people who expressed an interest shortly. This will be a one time small run
