    901 muffler detail

For the mufflers I am working on, see here https://www.early911sregistry.org/fo...le-SWB-muffler I am trying to figure out if the mufflers used on the 901's and probably very early other cars had the seperate slide over chrome (illustration 32) as seen on the later cars or a different set-up?

My parts book is from 66/67 and the detail is confusing. It both lists the chrome tip as well as what appears to be a replacement muffler tip (illustration 2/1)

    TIA

Unfortunately I can't answer question about 901 tips, but that replecement muffler tip is still available from Porsche. Made in Denmark though (as I bought it and replaced that on 901/1 Leistritz I have in for sale- section. That is not those super-early ones with "extra layer")

I just e-mailed with Dave DiMaria and according to his notes the 901's had the chrome tips which were part of the actual muffler and not the slide over tips as the later cars. I am pretty sure we will be able to duplicate this detail. Anybody out there have more information? I'd be interested to learn if the curved pipe had the ripples on the inside radius like the later systems or was smooth, I would expect it to have ripples

On the drawing it shows shadow where the ripples would be?

But also haven’t Dave this done for car 133?

Richard, I believe he indeed duplicated the tip detail and had the leistritz logo and type number engraved. As far as I know he did not duplicate the wrap around shield

Your wrapped muffler is the first clear shot I have ever seen. Probably none of the 64 cars have one any ore. I think the drawing #1 is the 901 muffler, yours has 2/1 (re)placed (at the leistriz factory or at a dealer). After that the common Leistritz was introduced?
