    Trunk gasket recommendations please

I need to replace the trunk gasket (really just need the right fender piece) and what I have now is original as near as I can tell because it fits so nicely. I typically buy all my seals from PORSCHE but recall when I bought one for my 73 a few years back that the current production design is a bit fat....anyone have experience with a supplier that you feel is producing something as the original or very close to it? Thanks!

    Steve,
Although no one ever seems to take my recommendations, I really like International Mercantile for rubber. As I recall, the trunk gasket fit well and didn't have any of the white powder that I had to clean off prior to fitment.
    Hope this helps.

Jay - thank you for the reply. Subsequently to my posting, I learned that PORSCHE is now offering their latest supersession PN with an improved design, so I'm going to give it a try. PN is 901-511-901-04. My dealer is great and if it is not up to par, they will happily take it back and I can give the IM seal a try.

I like the Porsche one. Use wax/grease remover to remove any white powder or whatever before you install it. Before I glue down any rubber seal I hit it with wax/grease remover.

Just wondering, why not use the degreaser after installation?

The Porsche seal I bought last fall is nice. Snug fit in the channel, but not too wide.

One uses the degreaser before installation because the adhesive doesn't stick well (at all) to the mold release agents (white powdery residue referred to above). You can use the wax/grease remover also after installation on the surfaces that are not glued, then use 303 Protectant for a natural looking UV protection on the rubber.

In the 20 years I've owned my 911 I've had to vacuum out the trunk and smuggler's box and hang out the carpet to dry after every wash.

My body man says all the longhoods leak and do so since they're new. My front is straight and the body panel gaps are very good.

Have you had experience with a dry trunk? Is it possible?

I bought a genuine PORSCHE trunk seal and I've had it sitting out straight in my basement so it is ready for installation.

What's the best way to remove the present seal?

What glue do you use to attach the new one?

    Thanks,

    Gene
