    I am interested in the VIN stamp placement on the very early '64. Picture please.

    I thought all that was to correct alignment of early non-adjustable struts,,,,,as Marek said above.

    The example in Primer is car 301181, the other are from 1964 and January 1965.
    That is exactly what happed to #301111. The original owner (Pete Smith of Bob Smith Porsche/VW) told me. They changed to the steel wheel because of vibrations.
