Thread: Hand Brake Cable Strap

    Hand Brake Cable Strap

After reinstalling the engine in my '70 911E, I noticed that the hand brake cable interferes with the accelerate linkage. The cable does drop a bit when it is released but I think I've routed the cable incorrectly or it's too short or too long. I looked through the parts catalog and saw there there is supposed to be a cable strap. Does anyone have any pictures that show what the strap is connected to and the correct routing of the cable?

    Thanks

    Chris

Chris, the throttle bellcrank arm is too low for one thing. It should be basically parallel to the ground. Won’t solve all your problems and I too am interested in where the strap goes, but definitely your throttle cable linkages need sorting too.

There are plastic handbrake cable guides which hold the cable up and away from any interference. They are an easy five minute install. With these you should be good as long as the cables are adjusted properly without too much slack. Stoddard has them rt and left.

There is also a grey cable suspension strap for 911/912 up to 69 or 70.

I know I'm missing that. What does it attach to?

If I’m thinking about the same cable suspension strap, my ‘69 has a bracket with a hole in it by one of the rear brake line brackets. I think it is positioned beneath the left rear seat pan. A bolt goes through the strap/hole. Let me know if you need a picture.

Here is the best/quickest photo I have of my 72 with the light gray strap installed with the clutch cable being cradled by it (look just above the ball socket). Not fun to install...each end of the strap has a grommet and when looped together a small (6mm) bolt secures it to the transmission.

Thanks Mac73S. That is what I was looking for. Hope my car still has the tab attached to the rear seat bucket.

You're most welcome, but to clarify, the seat bucket tab you mention is for securing the left side emergency brake cable, not the clutch cable...that 'loop' is just north (on the photo) above the bell crank ball socket.
