I personally like them without the black poop but if you're going for total look as it left the factory then you have no choice. I've looked for the perfect black tar match as the factory used and have never found it. Many suggestions but nothing is correct. If you find it let me know. Closest match I've found is roof repair tar but I couldn't find it non fibered. A non fibered version would be very close. It was used as a sealer it's not just black paint.

Lose the stickers on the coil ! the car is a '71 , not a later '72 or newer .
Post 14 in this thread... I looked into this over 10 years ago.

Great looking car. Thanks for sharing the journey with us
A bit more progress...getting the final punch list done...I've almost run out of parts to install. Exhaust installed and also test fitted the rear license plate panel...needs a bit of an adjustment to lift the right side slightly. What is the correct procedure to do this? Also, really don't want to drill into this original aluminum panel for the plate....

3M makes industrial-grade clear velcros which can support 25, 50 and higher-weight loads. Available at Home Depot, et al. I have used 2 1”x1” pieces to support my front plates when I have to. Only caveat: may not be suitable for improperly-prepared paintwork. You maybe able to weaken the adhesive backing on the pieces attaching to the panel - alcohol or 3M adhesive remover.
