    Understanding Sportomatic electrics HELP!

Can anyone advise me if my understanding is correct?

When in Park the ignition switch is connected to the solenoid (to power starter) through the Backup (reversing) light switch (terminals 50). So car should always start when in Park (assuming Backup light switch is working correctly).
When in Neutral the ignition switch is connected to the solenoid through the Bypass/Bridging switch (terminals 50). So the car should always start when in Neutral as well.

    Is this interpretation correct?

For many years my Sporto has occasionally not started in Neutral but has then done so when immediately placed in Park. So I presume my Backup light switch must be occasionally not making connection.

Two years ago I had intermittent starting problems which resulted in the Selenoid/Starter being refurbished but that did not solve the problem. I found I was only getting about 7.5volts on the output from the Ignition switch (terminal 50). I cured this by running a wire directly from the battery through a momentary push button switch to the Ignition switch output (terminal 50).

This had been fine till yesterday when the car would not start in either Park or Neutral. Working FINE again this morning!

I am wondering if the Bypass switch has now failed at the same time as the Backup light switch.

    What do you guys think?

It is of course so difficult to trace the fault as its so intermittent.
