There have been aftermarket versions made in aluminum, but the genuine Porsche part has always been plastic.
I couldn't find a current vendor with a metal version, but maybe someone else knows a source... Jimmy T?

Having had to replace a plastic one on the side of the road at least twice, I'm interested in this. I've heard that the metal one may put undue stress on other, more expensive parts of the system. Is there any truth to this?

I hope I'm not hijacking the thread. I apologize if the question is out of line.

No truth to that, ALU piece just does break.

The trunion slides against the braided steel clutch cable. A metal version might eventually wear into the cable, or cause the sliding action to become rough.
Those might have been Porsche's concerns, but I don't know if they proved to be issues with the aftermarket metal versions... Gordon?

Its been my experience that when the original plastic end broke that was an indication that it was time for a new clutch assembly. When the clutch disc wears too thin the pedal effort becomes too high and increases the strain on the plastic piece. The aluminum piece is great, but be aware that when you can no longer feel the 'over center' motion that things are wearing out.
