    Dipstick Dilemma

G'day! Can anyone please advise; my 1968 Targa 912 has been beautifully converted into/with a 1968 911 flat6. The car runs absolutely beautiful and the conversion done quite well but except for one thing, the original dipstick is too short and unuseable. When I first bought it, the dipstick was giving the wrong reading and consequently, we filled up the car with too much oil with disastrous results. Nevertheless, does anyone know an alternative much longer dipstick that would work? Refer photo how the oil filler looks to be the only let down in the conversion...both the angle and the weld looks unsightly. I would be open to change the oil filler too if I knew where and what to source. Thanks everyone.

I don't suppose you'd care to ask the shop that made that? Certainly they know the fix.

I'm not a mechanic, but common sense suggest finding out what year /type oil bag they used and then put the correct, for that bag, filler neck.... you then get the correct dip stick for that oil bag... alternatively you could drain the entire system and fill with the correct amount of oil, on level surface and make your own dip stick... i would want to get rid of that piece if it is something they "made up"

Yes Bob, all of your common sense suggestions addressed but I don't like the homemade dipstick I have at the moment and hence looking for further ideas. Mr. Mayo, I don't know the shop that converted it, the car is now Down-Under. Thanks!

Then unfortunately you,re on your own. "ASSUMUING" they used a 69-71 oil tank, then you need to find the neck and dipstick from that model.

Does that not look like a filler neck for a car with A/C. These had a totally different dipstick that was longer.

I would suggest checking the engine type number to prove that it is 1968 and then sourcing a 1968 oil tank and replacing the installed one with that...

Those were my thoughts, too. Not only is it a A/C filler neck but it has been modified too boot. Just get a garden variety filler neck and your dilemma will probably be solved.

Thanks everyone, yes I have confirmed through here that my engine is indeed a 1968. I will therefore look for a suitable/correct oil filler/neck.

Just happened to see this this morning. Not sure of the year, or if it makes much difference. No affiliation.
