Chrome trim removal from fender cut-outs

Thinking about removing the trim from the fender cut-outs...

    Any tips or advice?

I'm presuming that I'll drill the rivets out, remove the trim and then put some rubber plugs in the rivet holes.

Is it too much to hope that the paint is in good shape under where the trim was?

    Thanks in advance!

I just did this on my car, and overall, it was pretty straightforward. I basically did what you wrote: tap a small center punch on the rivet to ensure the drill bit stays centered, then drill out the rivet--it just takes a little bit of time with the drill to get the rivet head loose, so you might want to take it slow. the trim should just pull off after that. the paint was actually in decent shape under the trim...hopefully yours is too. good luck!

if it is the original bake dry paint you will be fine.... that said, the car looks too nice to be the old original paint.... so, a couple of factors come up. 1. how they were installed 2. the softness of the paint at time of installation and weather the trim pressed and printed the paint. if you know paint polishing you may be able to color sand and buff out any flaws. I would just stuff some butle in the screw holes and if you are realy fussy, dab some paint on the hole..
