Installing a newer Wiper motor - Fuses blow - anyone done this before?

I have 1972 Targa that is in the final phase of the restoration. We are currently getting all the electric sorted out.
Most of it is done and working, but I had an issue with the 1972 wiper motor, it was beyond repair, so I put a newer model in.
It's the later model with a 5 spade connector block, and when we wired it up it only works on first position, second position blows the fuse.
We have tested the wiring with a 1972 wiper motor of a friend and that works as it should.

So we started looking at the 1972 wires to test when they have lead/current on which position of the stalk:
Wipers off: Red/white to condensator to Black wire has lead
(black is on the motor spade and this is a permanent Lead to the motor in all positions of the stalk and Brown is on the ground Spade)
Position one: Black/Yellow AND Black/Purple have lead
Position two: Blue AND Black/Purple have lead
    Position three: Black/Purple has lead

Then we looked at a 1976 car that has the newer 5 spade connector motor in it and looked at the same and came to this list:
Wipers off: Red/white to condensator to Black wire has lead
(black is on the motor spade and this is a permanent Lead to the motor in all positions of the stalk and Brown is on the ground Spade)
    Position one: Black/Purple has lead
    Position two: Black/Yellow has lead
    Position three: Green has lead
We could not detect current on the blue wire, but we suspect it gives current when the stalk is returned to of, to put the motor in starting position.

Anyone out there that has successfully installed a newer wiper unit in an older car that can tell me how to hook this up properly without blowing the fuses?

Found an old post on the bird that explained how to get this working with an extra relais.
Tried it just yet and is is the solution to my problems.
I now have a new type 2.7/3.0/3.2 wiper assembly fully functional on my 2.4
I've added a schema to make things a bit easier to understand.
