BaT issues - is it just me, am I cursed?

I just submitted 3 cars to brat this week: matching #’s 86 Targa hotrod w/3.4L and over 150k in receipts, 5000 miles on resto / 82SC Targa in Moss Green w/53km and 100k in resto receipts and an 89 Jag XJS w/43km and 45k in receipts. All cars are damn near perfect. They told me they’d take the 86 hotrod only if I’d drop my reserve to @ 60k as they weren’t sure that I was being realistic about my amended reserve of 67. They could give a rats ass about anything except their profit. Screw the sellers. They haven’t responded back on the other 2 cars but I’m refusing to let them list them.

I tried listing an concours 83SC cab w/16,000 orig miles with them a couple of years ago (reserve then was 60k) and they told me that wasn’t their audience’s type of car. Last year they refused our ‘08 Audi S4 Avant wagon w/60,000miles because it was an automatic. I’m FOREVER done with them. Glad to hear, and use alternatives.

Anybody else have similar experiences?

Have you considered Carsandbids? Doug Demuro launched it not that long ago. They seem to have the foot traffic and aren’t as greedy yet as BaT is. Might be worth your consideration.

Yes: submitted my 1972 911s "rsr" but wasn't excepted. I don't know if it was the reserve (which I was willing to lower) or the car being in Europe. Also submitted a 3.2 short stroke engine with low reserve without success. Thought pcarmarket was 2nd best. I submitted and directly had a call from them, car was online within 48h. But this site is absolutely not comparable to BAT unfortunately. Never again...

My understanding of their practices is they shoot for 100% sell through, and with a steady stream of applicants can freely reject cars most would think are solid candidates.

Kinda wish it was still an enthusiast site...

BaT is a classic example of the enthusiast to profit devolution. Just another rerun in this long life of mine. I’ve lost track of how many things $$$ has ruined. That’s why Audette Collection has always been - and will always be - an enthusiast business. One of the (few) good things about being an old SOB is that you don’t have to give a $hit about money.

Peter, NOT a fan of fleabay but may put them there to drive traffic offsite. I think the buyers for these types of cars look elsewhere.
