    Pair of Tachometers - 1969 911S and 1970/71 911E

These have been sitting around and need to be used by somebody who will put them in a car.

The 69S tach came out of my old race car. "How do we know it's a 69S?" The two-liter cars had two pins on the back of the instruments to mount them, along with the clips and knurled nuts, all of which are included here. The redline of 7300 tells you it's an "S" tach and the 6zyl- 4 tkt tells you it's designed for a six cylinder four stroke engine. There are two original date codes, one of 7.68 stamped into the can itself, and then the blue ink stamp of 7.68 also on the back. Given there was about a three month delay in the supply chain I would expect this part to show up in a 69S. Could it be correct for a 68S also? That's cutting it close as the Factory closes in August and September production is 1969 model year. This one has some drips on the inside of the glass where condensation has formed and dripped down, bringing the dust with it. If you wanted it to be perfect, either send it to the usual suspects to be cleaned, or if it were me, pour some isopropyl alcohol into the holes in the back, slosh it around the face and let it evaporate away. Try it at your own risk but that's what I would do.

The 70E tach I acquired as a spare along the way. It's in better condition than the S tach, the plating on the case still has that bright iridescent look. The bezel has a few extremely small dings from being in storage for years. This one has 4.70 stamped into the can and a QC stamp of 6.70, which I think puts it at either 70 or 71E. In any event the production date is prior to the 10.70 cutoff date at which point the "Intermediate Unit" was eliminated. (For those of you newer to Porsche Tach arcana, this is the little silver can that says "Einbau Senkrecht Klemnen Unten" or "install vertically with contacts down." Why Bosch chose to write that on the can, the world will never know.

$1000 for the pair or $600 for the S/$400 for the E, I will pay shipping and insurance in CONUS. International buyers inquire as to shipping, you are responsible for all applicable taxes or import duties in your jurisdiction.

These are not returnable for obvious reasons, I mean, if you want to hook them up to your MIG Welder/Marshall Stack/Tesla Coil, whatever blows your hair back, but I'm not taking them back. Both of these run on the signal from the "Intermediate Unit" which is a very dirty EMF pulse caused by the breakdown of the Intermediate Unit's internal coil. I would recommend you use Bob Ashlock's Tach Adapter to run them. See http://ashlocktech.com/ for more details, no affiliation.
